New paper describing how bergamot lowers cholesterol

Previously we described how cholesterol has been shown in several clinical trials to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in human clinical trials.

Interestingly, the majority of the publications discuss how the compounds from bergamot share the same mechanism as statins.

Unfortunately, there is not any mechanistic studies to support this as a proposed mechanism.

In this paper we used a combination of cell free and cell based experiments to show that bergamot extract can lower cholesterol.

In addition, we show that the mechanism is distinct from the class of drugs known as statins.
