Mirielle defends PhD in Pharmacognosy

Congratulations to Mirielle for defending her PhD in Pharmacognosy!

Mirielle’s project focused on the anti-cancer activity of polyphenols from the mangosteen.

The mangosteen plant makes more than 80 xanthones with alpha-mangostin being the most abundant.

The mangosteen is rich in a variety of phytochemicals known as xanthones which our group is studying for disrupting the androgen receptor in prostate cancer.

The title of her thesis is “Xanthones from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) promote androgen receptor degradation in prostate cancer.”

While in our group she published 8 papers, received numerous awards including a T32 training award and a Fulbright Finalist.

Next steps for Dr. Mirielle Nauman will be to continue her developing her research skills as post-doctoral fellow.
