Mangosteen research presented at the 2019 GA conference in Austria

In September 2019, I had the opportunity to give an oral presentation at the 67th International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) in Innsbruck, Austria.

The GA is a society that promotes medicinal plant and natural product research and holds an annual conference that has been held in cities all over the world.

The five day long conference was full of workshops, networking, short talks, poster sessions, keynote talks, and some evening get-together events.

I was able to give a short talk on my research which I titled “Xanthones from the mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana) disrupt androgen receptor functionality in prostate cancer”.

This was a great (and very nerve-wracking!) experience to share my research in front of a large room of some of the world’s best natural product scientists.

I received some very helpful feedback on my research and was able to connect with like-minded students, scholars, and researchers.

The GA conference was an unforgettable experience for me and I cannot wait to return someday to the friendly, intellectual, and inspiring environment that the GA created.
