Restituto Tocmo receives award during 2020 UIC COP research day for mangosteen research

Congratulations Resty!  Restituto Tocmo, a post-doctoral fellow received the Lundbeck Award for Excellence in Research (2nd Place) in the category Biology: Molecular & Cell Biology; Mechanism of action

The title of Resty’s poster was “Prenylated Xanthones from Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) Activate the AhR and Nrf2 Pathways and Protect Epithelial Barrier Integrity in HT-29 Cells”.

This research focused on described how polyphenols from the mangosteen fruit have the potential to improve gastro intestinal barrier integrity in HT-29 cells.

Gastrointestinal barrier integrity is a significant problem in inflammatory bowel disease including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
